Healing Belongs to You in Christ! (part 4)

The Healing Covenant

5.9.2021

Review

There will never be a time you don’t need faith for healing, either for yourself…

If you wait to get faith when you need it, you will be at a disadvantage.

God wants us to walk in divine health. It is made available by faith in the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary.

The faith you have to receive forgiveness is the same faith that will heal you from sickness and disease.

This past year, with so much talk about sickness everywhere, we need to counteract that with the truth of God’s word about our health!

1. Deal with fear.

Faith cancels fear. Or, fear cancels faith.

2. To what information sources do you give the most attention?

Hearing, thinking, believing, speaking, acting.

Romans 10:17 – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Change the atmosphere of your life.

3. Take responsibility for your health in Christ.

Healing will not come without your participation!

Kenneth Hagin:

The blessings of God don’t fall like ripe cherries off of a tree.

4. Seven reasons you can know that healing is the will of God for you!

Faith begins where the will of God is known.

Faith does not rest in God’s ability alone. Faith begins where the will of God is known.

Part 4 – Today – The Healing Covenant

Hebrews 8:6 (NLT)

But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises.

If our New Covenant is better than the Old Covenant, should the New Covenant at least contain promises as good as the Old Covenant?

Remember that faith begins where the will of God is known!

The Healing Covenant of Exodus 15:26

Exodus 15:22-26 (NKJV)

So Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea; then they went out into the Wilderness of Shur. And they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 Now when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore the name of it was called Marah. 24 And the people complained against Moses, saying, “What shall we drink?”

Exodus 15:25 (NKJV)

So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet. There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them.

Statute

An authoritative decree or direction; an established rule, policy or practice

Ordinance

A verdict pronounced judicially, especially a sentence or formal decree; something laid down or declared as fixed or established

Exodus 15:26 (NKJV)

And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.”

The verbs here I will put and I have brought are in the permissive sense, not in the causative sense.

God has to allow what we allow.

I am the Lord who heals you is Jehovah Rapha in Hebrew.

Jehovah Rapha

I am the Lord your physician.

Jehovah (I am) speaks of the great unchanging nature of God.

God spoke this at the very beginning of the Israelites’ journey of freedom from the bondage of Egypt to the promised land.

This was more than a passing promise or an individual situation. It was meant to be woven into the very fabric of their lives.

(Understanding the Bible Commentary Series – Old Testament Set (18 vols.)

The Lord’s concern for health and healing in the 613 Sinai laws is extensive (Exod. 19–Num. 10:10). Community order in itself is a health issue. Keeping the Ten Commandments (e.g., you shall not kill, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not covet) deeply reduces violent crime in any community. The Sinai laws are also full of legal procedures with extensive instruction on how to maintain a just court, establishing a system of rule by law rather than by force. The laws also addressed medical concerns, including quarantine for contagious diseases, washing requirements for those who handle corpses (not done in Europe until the nineteenth century; Num. 19:19). The laws governing sexuality provided for the possibility that sexually-transmitted diseases would be nonexistent.

(Life Application Study Bible NLT- Study Bible Notes)

God promised that if the people obeyed him, they would not suffer from the diseases that plagued the Egyptians. Little did they know that many of the moral laws he later gave them were designed to keep them free from sickness. For example, following God’s law against prostitution would keep them free of venereal disease. God’s laws for us are often designed to keep us from harm. Men and women are complex beings. Our physical, emotional, and spiritual lives are intertwined. Modern medicine is now acknowledging what these laws assumed. If we want God to care for us, we need to submit to his directions for living.

Perhaps the NT parallel to this is:

Romans 8:11 (NKJV)

But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

(PHILLIPS)

Nevertheless once the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives within you he will, by that same Spirit, bring to your whole being new strength and vitality.

The Israelites remained free from sickness as long as they obeyed God!

Psalm 105:37 (NKJV)

He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes.

Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)

He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

Old Covenant Promises for Healing

Exodus 23:25-26 (NKJV)

So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. 26 No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days.

Deuteronomy 7:15 (NKJV)

And the Lord will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NKJV)

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.

Psalms 91:9-10 (NKJV)

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, 10 No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

Action Points:

1. Have you accepted healing as your covenant right as a believer?

2. Do you expect God to uphold His part of the healing covenant?

3. Are you seeking to put God and His Kingdom first place each day?
