Review

There will never be a time you don’t need faith for healing either for yourself or for someone else.

If you wait to get faith when you need it, you will be at a disadvantage.

God wants us to walk in divine health. It is made available by faith in the sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary.

The faith you have to receive forgiveness is the same faith that will heal you from sickness and disease.

This past year, with so much talk about sickness everywhere, we need to counteract that with the truth of God’s word about our health!

1. Deal with fear.

Faith cancels fear. Or, fear cancels faith.

2. To what information sources do you give the most attention?

Hearing, thinking, believing, speaking, acting.

Romans 10:17

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Change the atmosphere of your life.

3. Take responsibility for your health in Christ.

Healing will not come without your participation!

Faith begins where the will of God is known.

Faith does not rest in God’s ability alone. Faith begins where the will of God is known.

Part 4 – The Healing Covenant

Hebrews 8:6 (NKJV)

But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.

Exodus 15:26 (NKJV)

And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord who heals you.”

Part 5 – God’s seven covenant names

Jehovah means the self-existent One Who reveals Himself. In His Jehovah names, God reveals His covenant care for His own.

He is the same, yesterday, today, forever…

I am the Lord, I change not …

Healing in the Atonement of Christ

Christ is the fulfillment of the Passover Lamb:

1 Corinthians 5:7 (NLT)

… Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.

Exodus 12:5-12 (NLT)

The animal you select must be a one-year-old male, either a sheep or a goat, with no defects. 6 Take special care of this chosen animal until the evening of the fourteenth day of this first month. Then the whole assembly of the community of Israel must slaughter their lamb or young goat at twilight. 7 They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the sides and top of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the animal. 8 That same night they must roast the meat over a fire and eat it along with bitter salad greens and bread made without yeast. 9 Do not eat any of the meat raw or boiled in water. The whole animal—including the head, legs, and internal organs—must be roasted over a fire. 10 Do not leave any of it until the next morning. Burn whatever is not eaten before morning. 11 These are your instructions for eating this meal: Be fully dressed, wear your sandals, and carry your walking stick in your hand. Eat the meal with urgency, for this is the Lord’s Passover.

The basis for healing in the atonement is found in Isaiah 53, The Great Redemptive Chapter.

Isaiah 53:1-6 (NKJV)

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? 2 For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, and as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him. 3 He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows (pains) and acquainted with grief (sickness). And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains); yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Verse 1…

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

Faith is believing the report.

The arm of the Lord – our redemption.

It’s available to those who believe the report.

Verse 2…

(2) For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground. He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him.

Root out of dry ground…Jesus’ supernatural birth. (v.2)

(3) He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

Sorrows –

(Hebrew) – makob – pains

 

Job 14:22 – makob – pains

But his flesh will be in pain over it, And his soul will mourn over it.

Job 33:19 – makob rendered pain.

Man is also chastened with pain on his bed, And with strong pain in many of his bones,

Grief –

(Hebrew) Choli – sickness

(rendered sickness and disease)

Vs. 4 – A Divine commentary on Isaiah 53:4

Isaiah 53:4

Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains); yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

Many say this verse refers to sin, that Jesus became our sin, our spiritual sickness. First of all, sin is not a sickness! Sin is a heart issue.

Matthew gave a clear commentary on Isaiah 53:4 to let us know that it is referring to sickness and not sin.

Matthew 8:16

When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick,

Matthew 8:17

That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”

There are two words used in Isaiah 53:4 that are Levitical words referring to the scapegoat assuming the sins of Israel on the Day of Atonement.

Isaiah 53:4

Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses) and carried our sorrows (pains); yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

Borne –

(Hebrew) – Nasa – to lift up, to bear away, to convey or remove to a distance

Carried –

(Hebrew) – Sabal – to assume a heavy burden; a complete removal of the thing borne!

Same words used in vs. 11 & 12 for the substitutionary bearing of sin

Isaiah 53:11-12 (NLT)

When He sees all that is accomplished by His anguish, He will be satisfied. And because of His experience, my Righteous Servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. 12 I will give Him the honors of a victorious soldier, because He exposed Himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.

Levitical words used of the scapegoat that bore away the sins of the people.

 

Jesus our scapegoat bore (carried away) our sins and our sicknesses.

Leviticus 16: The Day of Atonement

Leviticus 16:21-22 (NLT)

He will lay both of his hands on the goat’s head and confess over it all the wickedness, rebellion, and sins of the people of Israel. In this way, he will transfer the people’s sins to the head of the goat. Then a man specially chosen for the task will drive the goat into the wilderness. 22 As the goat goes into the wilderness, it will carry all the people’s sins upon itself into a desolate land.

In the same way, Jesus bore our sins and sicknesses for us when He went to the cross.

1 Peter 2:24

Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed.

Numbers 21:4-9 (NLT)

Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor, taking the road to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. But the people grew impatient with the long journey, (5) and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!”

(6) So the LORD sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died. (7) Then the people came to Moses and cried out, “We have sinned by speaking against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people. (8) Then the LORD told him, “Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!” (9) So Moses made a snake out of bronze and attached it to a pole. Then anyone who was bitten by a snake could look at the bronze snake and be healed!

The serpent on the pole represents Jesus becoming our sacrifice for both sin and sickness.

Numbers 21:9 (AMP)

And Moses made a serpent of bronze and put it on a pole, and if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of bronze [attentively, expectantly, with a steady and absorbing gaze], he lived.

John 3:14-15 (NLT)

And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.

Action points:

Faith is exercised the same way for both salvation and healing!

Mark 11:24 (AMP)

For this reason I am telling you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe (trust and be confident) that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].

Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.

He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him. (4) Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. [Matt 8:17.]

(5) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.

This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.”

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.
