For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. 1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. Matthew 8:16-17 (NKJV) When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” Isaiah 53:4-6 (NKJV) Surely He has borne our griefs (sickness) and carried our sorrows (pains); Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV) My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Health begins inside of us and works its way outside. Romans 10:5-8 (NLT) For Moses writes that the law’s way of making a person right with God requires obedience to all of its commands. 6 But faith’s way of getting right with God says, “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will go up to heaven?’ (to bring Christ down to earth). 7 And don’t say, ‘Who will go down to the place of the dead?’ (to bring Christ back to life again).” 8 In fact, it says, “The message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart.” And that message is the very message about faith that we preach: Paul is saying, Don’t look on the outside to the law and your good works to bring you God’s blessings. Instead, look on the inside! What is in your heart will come out of your mouth and that is what brings God’s blessings! Paul was quoting here from Deuteronomy. The believers were looking for God’s blessings on the outside instead of preparing themselves on the inside. Deuteronomy 30:11-20 (NLT) The Choice of Life or Death 11 “This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach. 12 It is not kept in heaven, so distant that you must ask, ‘Who will go up to heaven and bring it down so we can hear it and obey?’ 13 It is not kept beyond the sea, so far away that you must ask, ‘Who will cross the sea to bring it to us so we can hear it and obey?’ 14 No, the message is very close at hand; it is on your lips and in your heart so that you can obey it. Israel thought that if they brought sacrifices, then that was all that was needed. They were looking for something on the outside of them to bring God’s blessings. But God was looking for a heart connection with them! And, it’s a heart connection with God that brings His healing power into your body. 15 “Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster. 16 For I command you this day to love the LORD your God and to keep his commands, decrees, and regulations by walking in his ways. If you do this, you will live and multiply, and the LORD your God will bless you and the land you are about to enter and occupy. 17 “But if your heart turns away and you refuse to listen, and if you are drawn away to serve and worship other gods, 18 then I warn you now that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live a long, good life in the land you are crossing the Jordan to occupy. 19 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! 20 You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” You will never be healthy outside until you are healthy inside! Romans 8:11 (NLT) The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you. Make sure doubt is not obstructing the Holy Spirit in bringing you healing. Make sure fear is not obstructing the Holy Spirit in bringing you healing. Make sure a heart hardened by sin is not obstructing the Holy Spirit in bringing you healing. Make sure unforgiveness is not obstructing the Holy Spirit in bringing you healing. Make sure anger at God is not obstructing the Holy Spirit in bringing you healing. Counteract the negative input all around us with faith in the Word of God. Since Covid 19 came along and has been pushed by the media for almost two years now – there has been a constant barrage of negatives producing fear. With so much sickness attacking from all sides, it’s a necessity for us to keep our faith built up in God’s word concerning His will to keep our bodies well. Question: Since God created our bodies with an immune system that fights off biological attacks on our health, IS it or is it NOT only God’s will to heal us, but also to enable us to walk in health, free from sickness and disease? If He wanted us to be sick- then He could just have easily left the immune system out of our bodies! Romans 10:17 – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Faith automatically comes on the heels of knowledge. Whatever you listen to is what you will have faith for…positive or negative There will NEVER be a time in your life that you do not need faith for healing, either for yourself, or for someone else. This is the reason over the last 45 plus years, I have regularly spent time building up my faith in God’s Word for healing… TURN OFF THE NEGATIVE- TURN ON THE POSITIVE.. From a practical angle, Kenneth Hagin used to tell us There is a God-ward side and a man-ward side to every battle and every victory. God always does His part, but we don’t always follow through with our part and then we wonder why things don’t work at times! As we get into this, you’re going to clearly see from scripture that God’s best for you is healing and health. But you’re also going to see that we must put ourselves in position to receive the best that God has for us. God often gets the blame when we don’t do our part to receive from Him. And we need to step up to the plate and accept responsibility! Most people think that God shoulders all the responsibility for what we receive and that is just not Biblically true! Plant God word inside you and make sure it is so strong that drowns out all outside activity! Mark 16:15-19 (NLT) And then he told them, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone. 16 Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. 17 These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe: They will cast out demons in my name, and they will speak in new languages. 18 They will be able to handle snakes with safety, and if they drink anything poisonous, it won’t hurt them. They will be able to place their hands on the sick, and they will be healed.” Jesus Ascends into Heaven (250/Luke 24:50-53) 19 When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand. HEALING SCRIPTURES Exodus 15:26 (NKJV) And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.” Exodus 23:25-26 (NKJV) So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. (26) No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. Deuteronomy 7:15 (NKJV) And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you. Psalms 103:1-3 (NKJV) Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! (2) Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: (3) Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases. Psalm 105:37 (NKJV) He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes. Psalm 107:20 (NKJV) He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Proverbs 4:20-22 (NKJV) My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. (21) Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; (22) For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Proverbs 4:20-22 (NIV) My son, pay attention to what I say; listen closely to my words. (21) Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; (22) for they are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body. Isaiah 53:3-4 (Amplified) He was despised and rejected and forsaken by men, a Man of sorrows and pains, and acquainted with grief and sickness; and like One from Whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we did not appreciate His worth or have any esteem for Him. (4) Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. (5) But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. Matthew 8:17 (NIV) This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: “He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases.” Acts 10:38 (NIV) How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him. 1 Peter 2:24-25 (NIV) He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. Matthew 21:22 (NKJV) And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive. Mark 11:23-24 (NLT) I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart. (24) I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours. John 15:7 (NLT) But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! John 16:23-24 (NLT) At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my name. (24) You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. 1 John 3:22 (NLT) – And we will receive from him whatever we ask because we obey him and do the things that please him. 1 John 5:14-15 (NLT) And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.(15) And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for. Numbers 23:19 (NKJV) God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? Psalm 84:11 (NKJV) For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold From those who walk uprightly. Psalm 89:34 (NKJV) My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips. Psalm 119:89 (NKJV) Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Psalm 138:2 (NKJV) I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV) The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV) So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. 2 ways healing is received… First, let’s understand that healing is received 2 different ways. Healing comes through the Sovereignty of God! (Spiritual Gifts) – God initiates Healing also comes through the Grace of God! (By Faith in God’s Word) – you initiate People get the 2 mixed up and then healing becomes confusing. Healing through Spiritual Gifts… God initiates the healing… 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, (9) to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, (10) to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. (11) But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. Gifts of Healings in Jesus ministry… Matthew 4:23-25 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. (24) Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. (25) Great multitudes followed Him — from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan. Matthew 8:16-17 (NLT) That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick.(17) This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah, who said, “He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases.” Matthew 9:35 (NLT) Jesus traveled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom. And he healed every kind of disease and illness. Matthew 12:9-15 (NLT) Then Jesus went over to their synagogue, (10) where he noticed a man with a deformed hand. The Pharisees asked Jesus, “Does the law permit a person to work by healing on the Sabbath?” (They were hoping he would say yes, so they could bring charges against him.) (11) And he answered, “If you had a sheep that fell into a well on the Sabbath, wouldn’t you work to pull it out? Of course you would. (12) And how much more valuable is a person than a sheep! Yes, the law permits a person to do good on the Sabbath.” (13) Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored, just like the other one! (14) Then the Pharisees called a meeting to plot how to kill Jesus. (15) But Jesus knew what they were planning. So he left that area, and many people followed him. He healed all the sick among them, Matthew 14:13-14 (NLT) As soon as Jesus heard the news, he left in a boat to a remote area to be alone. But the crowds heard where he was headed and followed on foot from many towns. (14) Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. With Spiritual Gifts – God initiates the healing – no faith at all is demanded of the recipient – it just happens… Examples: 1940’s and 50’s a healing revival. YouTube videos…Oral Roberts, AA Allen, Jock Coe, William Branham, and many others… 1954 – Oral Roberts came to my hometown at the fairgrounds and held a healing revival – people were saved and healed. Elbert Lee. Delivered from alcoholism and saved – his whole family followed him in salvation. Deaf in one ear chef at Grace Fellowship…What was that? He was looking for treuth! Sandy Brown on a Sunday night… Dave Roberson – A man with a tremendous healing anointing came to our church in 1982 – An usher in our church was healed 2 seats in front of me – He had been deaf in one ear all of his life…his ear popped open and he could suddenly hear! 1978 – Campmeeting – a man a few rows in front of my friends and me was healed and got out of his wheelchair and walked! I saw him!! Gifts of healings are still available today’.. SO again there is healing by God’s sovereignty, and there is healing by the Grace of God. Gifts of the Spirit – God initiates the healing, the person may or may not have faith. Healing by faith in God’s word – we initiate – there is no feeling to it at all. We just take GOd at his word and exercise faith in Him for healing… Let’s talk about healing by Faith now for a bit… Healing By Faith through Grace… What God offers in Grace must be received by Faith! Or you could say that Grace receives what God provides. The more faith you have…the more grace you can receive. Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. Grace is God’s hand outstretched; faith is our reaching out to receive what the Father has already provided… To receive healing through the grace of God, you must exercise faith. That means you must get into the Word and build up your capacity to receive! Romans 10:17 Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. 2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, The more faith you have in the Word, the greater the capacity to receive grace! Believers should receive healing primarily by faith Yes, gifts of healings are available, but even if you receive by gifts of healings, you must maintain your healing by exercising faith in God’s Word. Luke 4:25-29 (NLT) Certainly there were many needy widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the heavens were closed for three and a half years, and a severe famine devastated the land. (26) Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them. He was sent instead to a foreigner—a widow of Zarephath in the land of Sidon. (27) And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Elisha, but the only one healed was Naaman, a Syrian.” (28) When they heard this, the people in the synagogue were furious.(29) Jumping up, they mobbed him and forced him to the edge of the hill on which the town was built. They intended to push him over the cliff, Here the Israelites had a covenant of healing and were to simply believe what God had said to them about their health! The prophet was sent to those with no covenant. The Gifts of Healings are for the world! Christians may be healed by spiritual gifts, but they must maintain their healing by exercising their personal faith in God! Gifts of Healings are mainly for the world! IF a person has a chronic condition, they may or may not get healed by spiritual gifts! But they can always exercise faith in the Word! Example: Board member’s wife in Tulsa You should expect to receive healing by faith in God’s Word! We’ll take this up next time! Action Points: 1. Healing is always God’s will for you. 2. Health and Healing Start within! 3 Healing byGifts of the Spirit and healing by Faith are the two ways healing comes.
