This series is designed to help us deal with whatever the future brings. And to help us to prepare on the inside for whatever the future brings! The past number of weeks we have been discussing who we are in Jesus. The way you see yourself determines how you live your life! We have mentioned that in the new birth our nature changes. Old things pass away, all things become new spiritually. We’ve mentioned that our responsibility after salvation is to control our bodies and renew our minds. Last week – We talked about how meditation in the Word can transform you and cause you to become more aware of Jesus in your life! The most important thing we can do as Christians is to develop our spirit nature. Today, we will continue with: Four Rules For Training Your Human Spirit. We educate our minds. We exercise our bodies. We must on purpose train our spirit. 1. Meditate in the Word of God 2. Practice the Word 3. Put God’s Word 1st place in your Life 4. Instantly obey your conscience We left off last week talking about the importance of meditation. Take time every day to meditate. Start with who you are in Christ. 130 scriptures or so in the New Testament that mention in Him, Christ, in Whom. In my book, Change your Mind To Change Your Life, you will find scriptures on who you are in Christ and other subjects. Take some time to read them over and over slowly and meditate them. Your spirit life, created by God, is designed to receive nurture from Him through the Word! When you become sensitive to the Word of God, you will become sensitive to the Holy Spirit. John 16:13-15 (NKJV) However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. 14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. 15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you. John 14:26 (NKJV) But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. John 8:31-32 (HCSB) So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples. 32 You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Matthew 4:4 -NKJV But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'” The Word is like a corner stone, or the first cut board a carpenter uses to measure every other board he uses in an area. Where your life differs with it, change! Ask yourself: Is there some sin I need to stop? Is there something I’m not doing that I need to start doing? Is there an attitude, motive, way of speaking or thinking that I need to do differently after reading this portion of the WORD?? Take those scripture that show your need to change and meditate them. SO: To Develop Your Spirit Life 1.Meditate in the Word of God – Take 10 to 15 minutes every day. 2. Practice the Word. James 1:22 -NLT But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. Matthew 7:24-27 – NIV Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. (25) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. (26) But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. (27) The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” James 1:22-25 (NLT) But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. 23 For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. 24 You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. 25 But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. Make a choice to put the Word into practice. For instance: Matthew 5:44 (NKJV) But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, So when someone hurts your life in some way, instead of lashing out, love them by saying kind things to them, finding a way to tangibly help them, and praying for them every time you think about them! We must be willing to break long standing habits when the habits contradict the Word! You break a habit in three phases: 1. Catch yourself after the act. 2. Catch yourself in the middle of the act 3. Catch yourself before you commit the act. The key is to catch yourself in whatever phase as long as it takes to break the habit. 21 to 28 days generally begins the formation of new habits… For instance, if you have a problem with anger and you lash out at others quickly, or you become demanding and harsh when angry, go to the scriptures first! Ephesians 4:26-27 (NKJV) Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil. Meditate that scripture every day! Then, start catching yourself after the fact. Repent. Keep catching yourself and repenting. Then you will start catching yourself earlier – in the middle of the episode – and then just before you boil over! Again, break a habit one step at a time. 1 Timothy 4:7-8 – JB Phillips But steer clear of all these heathen old- wives’ tales. Take time and trouble to keep yourself spiritually fit. (8) Bodily fitness has a limited value, but spiritual fitness is of unlimited value, for it holds promise both for this present life and for the life to come. 1.Meditate in the Word of God 2. Practice the Word 3. Put God’s Word 1st place in your Life Ask yourself in every situation in life, What does God’s Word say about this? Don’t ask someone else’s opinion first. Don’t go to the internet first. Ask yourself, what does God in His Word say about this? And decide to do what God says about the issue you are dealing with! Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Proverbs 4:20-22 -NKJV My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. (21) Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; (22) For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. 1. Meditate in the Word of God 2. Practice the Word 3. Put God’s Word 1st place in your Life *4. Instantly obey your conscience Conscience is the voice of the human spirit speaking to us. Look within – is what you’re about to say or do right? Does it feel right inside? What is my conscience saying? The conscience, trained in the Word of God, becomes the voice of God to the believer. 1 John 3:20-21-AMP Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God’s hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him]. (21) And, beloved, if our consciences (our hearts) do not accuse us [if they do not make us feel guilty and condemn us], we have confidence (complete assurance and boldness) before God, You train your conscience by meditating in the Word, and then putting it into practice!!!! Your conscience can be seared,or hardened and indistinct. 1 Timothy 4:1-2 – NKJV Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, ALWAYS obey your conscience. Acts 23:1 – NLT Gazing intently at the high council, Paul began: “Brothers, I have always lived before God with a clear conscience!” Acts 24:16 -NLT Because of this, I always try to maintain a clear conscience before God and all people. 2 Timothy 1:3 – NLT Timothy, I thank God for you—the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers. SO, your spirit life will grow if you will practice these 4 things: 4 Rules For Developing Your Spirit Nature 1. Meditate in the Word of God 2. Practice the Word 3. Put God’s Word 1st place in your Life 4. Instantly obey your conscience Little by little, you will become intuitive and live from the inside out! You will not be perfect at this until you get to heaven. But work on it every day! Action Points: 1. Are you taking ten or fifteen minutes each day for meditation in the Word? 2. Are you choosing to put the Word into practice throughout your day? 3. Are you choosing to let the Word be the deciding factor in each choice you make? 4. Are you instantly obeying your conscience?
